January 19

We say
Closing out our week of SXSW London artist spotlights is Mabel, one of the UK’s brightest pop stars. The British-Swedish singer and songwriter has racked up twelve Top 20 singles with hits like ‘Don’t Call Me Up’, ‘My Lover’ and ‘Fine Line’. She has also earned two UK Top 3 albums, won Best Female Solo at the BRITs and amassed over 4.5bn global streams and more than 8m singles sold worldwide. Her platinum-selling debut album, ‘High Expectations’ (2019), was the best-selling debut by a British female artist that year. In 2022, she followed it with her second album ‘About Last Night’, which debuted at No.2 on the Official UK Albums Chart—her highest-charting release to date—and earned critical acclaim from publications such as NME, The Observer, and DIY. Fresh off her collaboration ‘Benz’ with Clavish, Mabel has just dropped the reflective and sublime new single ‘January 19’. Produced by Oscar Scheller (PinkPantheress, Shygirl), the track sees Mabel candidly reflect on her career and explores the pressures of navigating the music industry. Taken from her forthcoming self-titled mixtape, the song was featured in today’s new release programming across DSPs and offers a raw and authentic glimpse into what’s to come. Next week, Mabel will perform as part of SXSW London at Shoreditch Town Hall on Monday 2 June at 9.20pm. Music Festival Wristbands are available here.
